Lunch has never been as enjoyable as it was Tuesday, March 6, 2018 when Easter Seals hosted its 19th annual Hats Off to Mothers Luncheon at River Oaks Country Club. The stylish affair honors Houston mothers who have made significant contributions to their families and to the Houston community. It is also Easter Seal’s major fundraising luncheon and a fun event everyone looks forward to. This year’s luncheon was chaired by Jordan Fein, Dr. Kelli Cohen Fein, Carson Sherman, Julia Sherman, and Millette Sherman.

Hundreds of Houston’s finest came out in their haute hat attire filling River Oaks Country Club to the brim to benefit, and raise awareness for, Easter Seals Greater Houston’s programs, which serve veterans, children, and adults with all types of disabilities. Following the opening reception, the formal event began with a prayer led by Julia Sherman and Eunice Najera. The latter is a beloved client of Easter Seals’ Children’s Therapy Program. While the tasty luncheon was being served, guests enjoyed an informal fashion show presented by Neiman Marcus Galleria.

Elise Hough, the nonprofit’s CEO, addressed the crowd and shared that each one of them was assisting clients devastated by Hurricane Harvey with their generosity and attendance. Gina Gaston, a former luncheon chair, told the phenomenal stories of perseverance and selfless service of the 2018 honorees. These incredible women and mothers: Laura Davenport, Lisa Holthouse, Dr. Sippi Khurana, Marie Louise Kinder, Alissa Maples, DeeDee Marsh, Warner Roberts, Alicia Smith, Brenda Watts, and Judge Clarease R. Yates each received an award as a token of Easter Seals’, and the chairs’, appreciation for their service to the community.

One of the highlights of the annual fete, and something all participants look forward to, is the raffle. This year’s was no exception. Raffle items included: a pair of kyanite and diamond earrings from Tenenbaum Jewelers; luncheon for 20 at Nieman Marcus’ Mariposa restaurant; dinner for six at Tony’s restaurant; gift certificates of varying monetary value from Tootsies, Marquita Masterson, and Events; a gift certificate to Boxwood Interiors; and a “Simple Bliss” spa package for Deer Lake Lodge and Spa. Attendees continued to show support for Easter Seals by purchasing raffle tickets and raising their paddles high to pledge funds for life-changing resources. Hats Off to these lovely ladies for another successful luncheon benefiting the greater Houston community!
