June 25 was a night of celebration at the Mosaic Penthouse as CKW Luxe magazine celebrated its one-year anniversary and announced its Star Award honorees for 2016. The Star Awards are bestowed annually to exceptional and inspiring women and youth. This year’s honorees are all truly inspirational in their own unique way and act as guiding lights for their communities.

The 2016 Star Award honorees include: Dr. Susan Snider Osterberg, Phyllis Williams, Dr. Anne Shen Chao, Gracie Cavnar, Cynthia Petrello, Leona Chen, Simone Biles, Chloe Choudhury, Tarun Srinivasan, Sean Gilmore, and Bradlee Few.

CKW Luxe was also proud to honor their art editor, Cindi Harwood Rose, renowned silhouette artist and founder of the Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation, which provides free reconstructive surgery to post-cancer patients. Her unparalleled skills as a silhouette artist have made her the fastest in the world, as well as the joint subject of a fascinating and informative new film called Silhouette Secrets. Not only does Cindi appear in the award-winning film, she is also an associate producer.

Over 150 friends and supporters joined in the event, which was aptly themed “be inspired.” Jewelry designer Joe Vilaiwan of Beverly Hills even made the trip to Houston just for the festivities. Popular KHOU Channel 11 news anchor Lily Jang emceed the evening to the delight of all in attendance. Guests were treated to unparalleled musical performances by renowned musicians from Ars Lyrica who also contribute their talent to Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, and Houston Ballet. It was an evening not only of celebration, but one of culture and fine food. Davis Street at Hermann Park pleased palates with eight delicious appetizers, Edible Moments satisfied each guest’s sweet tooth with winsome wedding-like cake presented by Chellew Productions, and Macaron by Patisse tempted taste buds with a magnificent macaron tower.

The highlights didn’t end with superlative entertainment and delectable food, however. There was also a giveaway of exceptional door prizes, whose collective value exceeded $15,000. The door prizes included: a Davis Street at Hermann Park dinner for four in the Chef’s Room, a CKW Collection crystal clutch and gift tickets compliments of Houston Grand Opera valued at $2,300 in all, a weekend giveaway with BMW and Fleming’s dinner for four, Vilaiwan Fine Jewelry valued at $2,000, a Utopia MedSpa gift certificate valued at $2,000, an art piece from Allan Rodewald valued at $2,000, an Emotional Baggage handbag valued at $1,200, a Hanh Gallery painting party for 12 valued at $1,000,  and a private yacht charter from The Yacht Sales Company valued at $1,000.

One year ago, CKW Luxe was subscription-only. The magazine has now expanded distribution to hundreds of locations and is for sale in many stores and on many newsstands. Connie Kwan-Wong, publisher and founder of CKW Luxe, explained that they will continue their mission of great storytelling and spreading the message of love, hope, and positivity. Houston is such a philanthropic and educated city, and she hopes to create a magazine that makes all Houstonians proud. Not only are the letters CKW her initials, they also stand for Caring, Kindness, and Wisdom. It is Connie’s wish that CKW Luxe helps make the world a better place.
