Art Colony Association Announces Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park 2017 Featured Artist

Friday – Sunday, March 24- 26, 2017

The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA) has announced the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park 2017 featured artist is Amanda Bennett, a mixed media artist from New Orleans. Bennett along with over 300 artists from around the country and 19 different disciplines will showcase their art at the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park on Friday – Sunday, March 24- 26, 2017.

“For 46 years now, festival patrons have enjoyed a beautiful and vibrant walk through Memorial Park,” said Bridget Anderson, Executive Director of Art Colony Association. “With the dedication and help from our wonderful sponsors and supporters, we are able to produce one of the top festivals in the U.S. for all our guests.”

As the nation’s premier outdoor fine art event, the three-day festival will provide guests with the opportunity to personally meet artists, view original works, and purchase world class art. The festival will benefit local non-profit partner(s) and will feature music, local food vendors, beverages, entertainment, gigantic bubbles with Hilary Scullane, a Children’s Creative Zone and much more.

This year’s featured artist transforms mid-century advertising, acrylic mediums and photography into a mash up on plywood, inspired by pop art and funk style. Bennett remembers painting with her grandmother as a child, who used a spatula as her primary tool. However, it wasn't until years later, staring at the blank walls of her loft in Birmingham, Alabama, that Bennett rediscovered her passion for art. As a Huntsville, Alabama native, Bennett spent 10 years in Nashville, where her music inspired art gained local attention. She now resides in New Orleans, where the city’s rhythm, color palette and energy stirs and ignites her creative process.

ACA produces the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in the spring and The Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall. ACA has provided a venue for over 20,000 artists to showcase their work to thousands of art lovers from all over the world. Every year, a new jury selects participating artists, some new and some returning. This helps create a fresh and different festival year after year. Sponsors for this year’s Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park include Energy, Green Mountain Energy, LeafGuard Gutter Protection, Power Home Remodeling, Renewal by Andersen and Stella Artois.
