With 200 guests sporting wacky wigs and hilarious hats, Main Street Theater’s BigDO, held on Groundhog Day, Friday, February 2, 2018, was guaranteed to be a fun time for all. The gallery, breezeway, and Matchbox4 Theater of the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH) overflowed with celebrants. They were there to support Main Street Theater’s education and outreach programs, which benefit over 130,000 children, their families, and educators each year.

Mélange added to the merriment with delicious eats that included a gourmet donut station. A highlight of the evening included the skit Groundhog Getaway, by Zack Varela—specially written for the night. It featured Sunny 99.1 FM’s Dana Tyson, CultureMap’s Steve Devadanam, Houstonia magazine’s Doni Wilson, and Houston’s own America’s Got Talent star, Juan Carlos, AKA the Montrose Skater. All were making their debut with Main Street Theater!

Perhaps the greatest moment of the evening was when event honoree, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, delivered a heartfelt off-the-cuff speech.  His touching words began with, “Since Main Street Theater is all about story, I will tell you my story.” Mr. McIngvale received multiple standing ovations throughout the night and graciously mingled with guests.

The happy event raised over $100,000.
