Kids’ Meals is a caring nonprofit whose mission is “to end childhood hunger by delivering free healthy meals to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children, and, through collaboration, provide their families with resources to help end the cycle of poverty.” Every day of the year, Kids’ Meals’ volunteers prepare thousands of healthy lunches and deliver them to children enrolled in their program. Kids’ Meals currently serves six Houston-area routes where the need is critical.

In addition to the five nutritious weekly meals the organization provides, it also supplies its children with a variety of helpful resources. These include: free books every quarter, turkeys at Thanksgiving, toys and fun at a holiday Christmas party, and information on critical community resources families need to help them with other issues they face due to extreme poverty.

Here are just a few of Kids’ Meals’ uplifting accomplishments for 2016:

647,461 nutritious meals were delivered to hungry children in Houston

1,500 bags of groceries were distributed to families at Thanksgiving and Christmas

1,200 turkeys were given out at Thanksgiving

Over 7,000 Kids’ Meals’ volunteers contributed to the ongoing efforts of ending childhood hunger in Houston

The CKW (Connie Kwan-Wong) Foundation, which seeks to serve as a bridge between the Houston community and established children’s charities to foster growth and community involvement in these charities, is a supporter of Kids’ Meals. Staff of CKW LUXE, the foundation’s magazine, volunteer regularly for the charity.

On February 5, 2018, CKW LUXE had the great pleasure of hosting a special author event at Kids’ Meals Inc. It featured author, Melissa M. Williams reading her book, Little Miss Molly, to the delight of everyone present, especially the children. The whimsical story tells the tale of Molly, a lizard who loves pink because princesses wear pink, and Molly wants to be a princess. When a calamity spoils her special day, Molly learns there is more to being a princess than just wearing pink. The author specializes in realistic fiction for reluctant readers featuring charming characters and high-interest stories.

As an added surprise, each child was given a Little Miss Molly coloring book to take home. Because it features the seasons, the children get to see what Molly does throughout the year. The joyful event was a tremendous success, for the children who were treated to a charming story and other activities, and for the volunteers and organizers who witnessed their happy faces. On February 17, 2018, CKW LUXE returned to Kids’ Meals Inc. to help make sandwiches and contribute to the hope Kids’ Meals brings to so many.
