The Celebration
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center was filled with laughter and sunshine on Sunday April 24, 2022 for the Ambassadors for Texas Children’s Hospital’s 12th annual Family Fun Day to benefit Texas Children’s Center for Vaccine Development. The jubilant event was chaired by lifetime ambassadors Jen and Ben Fink. Texas Children’s Hospital Board of Directors member Carolyn Sabat and Texas Children’s Hospital Executive Vice President, Michelle Riley-Brown, were in attendance to greet participants.
The Story
With one children’s book from the Texas Children’s Hospital Child Life department’s wish list in hand as the cost of admission, 331 guests gathered for an afternoon of family friendly outdoor activities. Children and adults alike enjoyed yard games, face-painting, a photo booth, and a petting zoo. Buffets from A Fare Extraordinaire offered fabulous fun food for all palates. Highlights were pumpkin-seed encrusted chicken satays and white cheddar macaroni and cheese.
The Moments
Wish-list books were collected, filling eight banker’s boxes, which will be delivered to the Texas Children’s Hospital Child Life department. The department’s unique approach is to employ books, games, music programs and special events to promote an environment of positive support and understanding and to alleviate the fears that children and families may have during illness and hospitalization.
To date in 2022, the Ambassadors for Texas Children’s Hospital have raised $868, 716 for Texas Children’s Center for Vaccine Development. By the end of 2022, the organization expects to exceed last year’s total of$1.1 million.
