Inspiring Performances Accent Talent at HSPVA Friends Luncheon

The Celebration

The 14thAnnual HSPVA Friends Encore Luncheon: Tastemakers, benefiting Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA),was held at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Chaired by Evelyn and Frank Angelle, this year’s luncheon honored Distinguished Alumna Rhoda Boone Lane.

The Story

In attendance were 300 guests and supporters. They came together to raise funds forart area supplies, state-of-the-art technology, specialized teachers, and other essential building blocks required by Kinder HSPVA’s rigorous arts curriculum.

The Moments

Performances by Kinder HSPVA students opened the uplifting event. They included a vibrant spoken-word piece presented by creative writing students and a recital by junior Sarah Grace Kimberly, a finalist on Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice. Kimberly was accompanied by a band made up of some of her fellow music students. An onstage interview with honoree Rhoda Boone Lane followed. Lindsey Brown and Julie Soefer spoke with Booneabouther time at Kinder HSPVA and her work as an esteemed food director for video with Condé Nast’s Bon Appétitand Epicurious.

The successful event raised nearly $200,000.

HSPVA Friends is the nonprofit organization that provides support for the needs of Houston’s talented young artists at the internationally renowned Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA). The organization’s mission is to cultivate support for the school in order to enhance educational, professional, and artistic opportunities for its current and future students.
