The Celebration

The Ballroom at Bayou Place was filled with bright spring bonnets when CHILDREN AT RISK and Attack Poverty hosted The Big Brunch: A Bridge to the Future. It is the mission of both these organizations to assist children in need and ensure a bright future for all children. The festive gathering was chaired by Tracy and Harry Faulkner, Joy Winkler Chapman, Theresa Hildreth, Fallon Huff, Carie Lawson, and chef chair David Cordúa. Vibrant KHOU-11 anchor, Lisa Hernandez, emceed.

The Story

Paired with an epic throwdown that featured hot Houston food trends and of-the-moment chefs, the sophisticated brunch treated palates to the best taste sensations in town provided by Kiran Verma of Kiran’s Restaurant; Dominick Lee of Poitín Bar & Kitchen; Brandon Silva of Wooster’s Garden; Brandi Key, Kelly Laudadio and Jorge Valencia of LMN Hospitality; David Skinner of Eculent; and Rebecca Masson of Fluff Bake Bar. The 400 guests dressed to impress accenting their couture with their finest spring millinery. Mimosas, bloody Marys, and fine wines were enjoyed as participants scanned the auction offerings.

The Moments

President and CEO of CHILDREN AT RISK, Dr. Bob Sanborn, and president and CEO of Attack Poverty, Richard Logan, spoke about the importance of improving the quality of life for children and the need to break the cycle of generational poverty. The successful event, which raised $225,000, ended with guests bidding on auction items, such as John Mayer concert-suite tickets and the Fear the Beard private suite at a Houston Rockets home game, and with the announcement of awards.
