The Celebration

The Revaire, Houston’s chic new event venue, welcomed nearly 400 guests to the 2018 Women’s Home reNew & reDo luncheon: A Triumphant Affair.  Selby Bush and Kimberly C. David chaired the event, which honored and celebrated the women of The Women’s Home. Adele and Ber Pieper, who have been involved with the home for over 30 years, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Fashion designer Elaine Turner received the Philanthropic Fashionista Award. Champions of The Women’s Home Awards were given to Duke Ensell, Janice Hall, and Kay Joyce, long-time advocates for the home who epitomize what it means to have a servant’s heart.

The Story

The Pop-Up Cottage Shop was filled with high-end fashion, including dresses, purses, shoes, jewelry, and so much more.  Many participants, both men and women, picked up items from the fabulous selection. While enjoying the elegant lunch, attendees watched the stunning fashion show marking this year’s event as the first to join the annual luncheon and fashion show. The models consisted of residents of The Women’s Home and a selection of those being honored for their work with the home. All the clothing modeled was available for purchase at the Pop-Up Cottage Shop.

The Moments 

Houston poet and model Miss Pinky kicked off the program by performing her song, “Too Fat to Be Famous,” which addresses body positivity and acceptance of ourselves. Harris County Judge, the Honorable Ed Emmett, read a proclamation declaring November 1 as Adele and Ber Pieper Day in Houston, surprising the philanthropic couple. Guests were given a moving look at the hard work being done by the clients of The Women’s Home with  a powerful video and live performance. An 18-carat white gold Chopard necklace from the Happy Diamonds collection and an original artwork by Tony Richard were this year’s raffle items. The necklace was inspired by waterfall droplets, and the artwork drew on themes from the mission of The Women’s Home.

Over $250,000 was raised by the event for The Women’s Home and its programs.

During this time, it has been successful in offering many women, a number of whom are homeless and lack job skills due to substance abuse and mental illness, a home and a model of care called Whole Life.
