In this, our almost fifth year, a true milestone for CKW LUXE, we continue to bring you articles we hope will inspire and uplift you. It is the aim of CKW LUXE to promote love, hope, and positivity in the lives of everyone who reads our magazine. We also strive to provide you, our readers, with examples that will encourage you to live life in a way that will benefit you and others and assist you in finding a path that will help you reach your goals.

As we have done in the past, we continue to celebrate many of the men and woman who are the beacons of our great city. With this year’s Top 20 Impact Makers Awards, which we presented on January 19, 2020 at an elegant event at the luxurious St. Regis Houston, we recognize Houstonians who selflessly assist their communities in ways that improve them for everyone. By doing so, the impact they make on Houston is incalculable. We invite you to delve farther into the pages of this issue and be inspired by their stories.

We would like to congratulate our 2020 Top 20 Impact Makers and thank them for their philanthropic spirit and for the sacrifices they make to improve conditions for Houstonians, and, in many cases, our global family.

It seems this is just a beginning for us. Even with so many successes behind us, we have much to accomplish and look forward to in the near future.

These are some of the programs we have planned: Houston’s MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and Baroque orchestra Ars Lyrica, with assistance from CKW LUXE, is tapping into the relationship between our bodies and music with a recorder program for pediatric cancer patients. Developed with MD Anderson’s Arts in Medicine Program, the recorder program embeds an Ars Lyrica musician, Pablo Moreno, into the hospital setting once a month to provide pediatric patients with free and accessible recorder lessons, available in both Spanish and English. Melissa Sandoval, a board-certified music therapist, will work on achieving therapeutic goals, such as diaphragmatic breathing, with them.

We are also excited about our upcoming partnership with iWRITE, an organization that promotes reading and writing for children, to create six-month children’s writing and publishing workshops in the counties of Harris and Fort Bend. Professionals will teach children from the ages of six to nine how to write creatively with exciting lessons that will lead them to becoming published authors. At the end of the workshops, participants will attend a book-signing celebration in honor of their published stories. With the assistance of CKW LUXE, those who are accepted will attend free of charge.

And, we are delighted at the prospect of providing art lessons and supplies for Kids’ Meals, a wonderful organization that delivers free meals to Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children. We have also purchased a commercial van for the organization.

In June, we will present our second CKW LUXE Creative Arts Summer Camp, designed to highlight the creative abilities of every child who participates. In 2019, CKW LUXE collaborated with Houston Grand Opera to produce the organization’s first picture book: The Armadillo’s Dream. In 2020, we will work with HGO to develop an intimate experience that brings caregivers, parents, and babies a unique and meaningful opportunity leading to a lifelong love of the arts and opera.. Finally, CKW LUXE is looking forward to being part of a luncheon series that will raise awareness for The Women’s Home.

There is so much for all of us to look forward to. Thank you for letting us take your journey with you, and, as always, thank you for believing in CKW LUXE.
