Pat Houck is a successful business owner, devoted community leader, and tireless volunteer.


Pat is a proud native of Victoria County, Texas, with roots stretching across generations in the Lone Star State. Pat’s upbringing has instilled in her a deep appreciation for community, tradition, and the region’s rich cultural heritage.  Pat embodies the essence of Texas hospitality and resilience.


Little did she know at the onset of her journey that it would ultimately lead her to become the owner of House of Blooms, one of Fort Bend’s premier floral design studios. Yet, through her dedication, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for beauty, Pat has cultivated a thriving business that reflects her love for flowers and serves as a beacon of warmth and elegance within the community. Her journey from humble beginnings to owning a renowned establishment is a testament to her determination, vision, and the enduring spirit of Texas.


After attending the University of Houston, Pat married Allen Houck, her husband of 52 years. They began their life together in Houston Texas before moving to Fort Bend in 1979. They embarked on a short six-year journey to the West Coast before returning to Fort Bend and finding a new home in Sugar Land.  In 1981, As they built their growing family, they embraced the adventures and experiences that each new destination brought. Still, they decided to lay down roots and create a legacy in the warmth and vibrancy of Sugar Land.


Pat started her professional journey in the banking industry, where she cultivated her skills and gained invaluable experience. However, her thirst for new challenges led her to transition to the oil and gas sector where she thrived in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. In this new arena, Pat applied her expertise in finance and management, further broadening her professional repertoire.


 Fueled by her entrepreneurial spirit, Pat ventured into desktop publishing, establishing and operating Desktop Publishing by Pat for over 15 years. Throughout this time, she poured her creativity and expertise into the business, delivering exceptional services to her clientele.


Pat’s remarkable success in her professional endeavors was matched only by her unwavering devotion to her family. Recognizing the profound importance of cherishing her loved ones, Pat made a courageous decision to shift her focus and dedicate more time to their needs. This heartfelt choice exemplified Pat’s profound commitment to her career and cherished relationships, demonstrating her remarkable ability to adapt and prioritize what truly matters in life. This transition underscored Pat’s resilience and
highlighted her capacity to embrace life’s changes with optimism and grace.


Pat has exemplified adaptability, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence throughout her diverse career path. These qualities continue to serve her well as she embarks on new entrepreneurial endeavors at House of Blooms, where she continues to thrive and make a lasting impact.


Pat and Allen’s family is integral to their personal lives and deeply intertwined with the daily operations of House of Blooms. Their son, Patrick Houck, a 21-year retired Marine veteran, brings a wealth of discipline and dedication to the business’s daily operations. Patrick’s wife, Courtney Houck, adds invaluable support to the family and the business. Together, they are proud parents to their beautiful daughter, Hunter, who adds a golden sparkle of joy to their lives.


Their family extends to include their daughter, Tiffany Albrecht, who is married to Dr. Andrew Albrecht. Together, they are the proud parents of Austin and Ashton, adding another layer of love and joy to the family dynamic. Tiffany, a Texas Master Florist, infuses her expertise and creativity into the House of Blooms, elevating its floral designs and event coordination services to new heights. Her passion and dedication are invaluable assets to the business, ensuring its continued success and reputation for excellence in Sugar Land and beyond.


In 2007, House of Blooms blossomed into existence, opening its doors in the heart of Sugar Land Town Square. This vibrant debut began a floral journey that would captivate the community with its exquisite arrangements and unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction. With its prime location amidst the bustling energy of Sugar Land, House of Blooms quickly became a cherished fixture, adding a touch of elegance and beauty to the town square’s bustling landscape.


Pat is an enthusiastic member of the Texas State Floral Association and the Society of American Florists, esteemed organizations dedicated to celebrating and advancing the artistry and professionalism of florists nationwide. Through her active involvement, Pat remains at the forefront of the floral industry, staying informed about the latest trends and innovations while contributing to the vibrant community of florists.


One notable initiative organized by the Society of American Florists is “Petal it Forward,” a heartwarming event in which House of Blooms eagerly participates. During this event, Pat, and her team, with many volunteers, joyfully distribute flowers to unsuspecting recipients, spreading smiles and kindness throughout the community. By participating in “Petal it Forward”, House of Blooms not only shares the beauty of flowers but also embodies the spirit of giving, enriching the lives of others, and fostering a sense of connection and joy.


In 2013, House of Blooms took a significant step forward, relocating to a spacious brick-and-mortar establishment within the bustling heart of Town Square. This move marked a new chapter in the shop’s evolution, providing ample space to showcase its exquisite floral arrangements and expand its range of services. With its prime location and expanded capacity, House of Blooms flourished, delighting customers, and solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for floral artistry in the community.


Pat supports House of Blooms team members actively participating in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Horticulture Committee, further demonstrating their dedication to enriching the community. Through their involvement, they contribute their expertise and passion for horticulture to support the show’s vibrant displays and educational initiatives. Their commitment to this esteemed organization reflects the House of Blooms’ broader ethos of community engagement and excellence in floral artistry.


Pat’s commitment to community service is remarkable, as evidenced by her extensive involvement in various organizations. She has served as the past president of the Fort Bend Education Foundation, where her leadership helped advance the foundation’s mission of supporting local schools and teachers. Additionally, Pat is a sustainer of the Junior Service League of Fort Bend, demonstrating her ongoing dedication to community outreach and philanthropy.


Her contributions extend further as the past president of the Fort Bend YMCA and is a Lifetime Emeritus, where she played a pivotal role in fostering health and wellness initiatives within the community. Pat is also an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce, leveraging her expertise and connections to support the growth and prosperity of local businesses. She attended the Chamber’s Second Leadership class.
Furthermore, Pat’s commitment to service extends to the Sugar Land Rotary and the Sugar Land Exchange Club, where she actively participates in initiatives to impact the community positively. Her multifaceted involvement in these organizations reflects her unwavering dedication to serving others and making a difference in the lives of those around her.


In 2023, House of Blooms embarked on yet another exciting chapter in its journey, relocating within Sugar Land Town Square for the third time, all while keeping its address on City Walk. This relocation marked a significant milestone for the beloved floral design studio, highlighting its enduring presence and continued growth within the vibrant community. With each move, House of Blooms has continued to evolve and adapt, ensuring its ability to meet the needs of its loyal clientele while remaining a cherished fixture in the heart of Sugar Land.


Pat and House of Blooms have garnered numerous prestigious design awards, earning accolades from world-renowned designers like David Tutera. Their talent and creativity have also been celebrated in local competitions like the Primavera at the Houston Galleria, and philanthropic and industry awards have been awarded to Pat and the team over the years. 


Furthermore, their contributions to the floral industry have been honored with industry awards and recognitions, underscoring their commitment to excellence and innovation. Pat’s leadership also has been acknowledged by the House of Representatives 22nd District of Texas, recognizing her as a driving force and job creator within the economy of Fort Bend County and Sugar Land. These accolades testify to the exceptional quality and impact of Pat and House of Blooms’ work, solidifying their reputation as leaders in the floral design industry.


Pat eagerly anticipates the next chapter of her journey, embracing the opportunities and
adventures ahead. She looks forward to cherishing precious moments with her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren; relishing the joy of family bonds; and creating cherished memories together. As she continues navigating life’s twists and turns, Pat remains steadfast in her commitment to her loved ones and her passion for floral artistry, eager to see where the future leads and to continue making a positive impact in her community and beyond.


It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that Pat Houck has been named a Top 20 Inspiring Woman Impact Maker for 2024.
