On Sunday, November 4, 2018, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will host the fanciful Armadillo’s Tea at the St. Regis Hotel at 3 p.m. The charming fête will celebrate the launch of The Armadillo’s Dream, a picture book written by Dennis Arrowsmith and illustrated by Eduard Hakobyan. Arrowsmith is the Touring Programs Manager of HGOco, the company’s community outreach and collaboration arm. Dennis Arrowsmith will also give a reading and sign copies of the book during the celebration. Proceeds from the tea will go to HGOco.

This beautiful and touching children’s book is the first of five planned storybooks to be commissioned by HGO. The opera-themed books will become part of HGOco’s Storybook Opera program, in which a singing storyteller will bring a picture book to life for students from pre-K to second grade.

Generously underwritten by the CKW (Connie Kwan-Wong) Foundation, the delightful work is published by CKW Publishing. It tells the story, using poetry, of an armadillo named Sandy whose greatest wish is to become a singer and perform onstage with HGO at the Wortham Theater Center. Author, Dennis Arrowsmith, who adapted the story from a Bolivian folktale, calls it a “sweet story about the power of determination and resilience.” He hopes readers are moved and inspired by it.

Available in English and Spanish, The Armadillo’s Dream was translated by Alejandro Magallón. On November 5, 2018, the book will become available to the public. Those who would like a copy can order one through the HGO website.

Connie Kwan-Wong, Founder and Publisher of CKW LUXE magazine, will chair the upcoming Armadillo’s Tea. She is one of HGO’s most devoted supporters.

Limited availability tickets begin at $250 and include a signed copy of the book. To reserve your seat for this wonderful event, please go to https://www.houstongrandopera.org/armadillostea
