Dr. Luis Ostrosky-Zeichner has devoted his education, career, and life to studying, preventing, treating, and disseminating information about the infectious diseases that affect mankind.

 

Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner is a professor of medicine and epidemiology, the vice-chair of medicine for the Center for Healthcare Quality and Safety, UTHealth; the director of the Laboratory of Mycology Research; and the division chief at the Division of Infectious Diseases of the McGovern Medical School, UTHealth. He also serves as medical director for epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship for Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center and UT Physicians.

 

An internationally recognized infectious diseases physician, Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner has consulted for the FDA and the CDC. His areas of expertise include fungal infections, transplant infectious diseases, hospital epidemiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner has coordinated the response to the virus at UTHealth and Memorial Hermann.

 

Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner obtained his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and completed his internal medicine residency at Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (Salvador Zubirán National Institute of Health Sciences and Nutrition).He received his infectious diseases fellowship from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center combined fellowship program.

 

Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner’s professional affiliations are many. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and the Academy of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology. He is also a senior editor for Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and an editorial board member of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and Clinical Infectious Diseases. He is the vice president of the Mycoses Study Group and Educational Consortium and of the International Immunocompromised Host Society. As well, Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner is a past chair of the Infectious Diseases Society of America Standards and Practice Guidelines Committee. He has also authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and actively pursues translational and clinical research in medical mycology and hospital epidemiology.

 

Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner has spent hundreds of hours doing media interviews and town halls on COVID-19, educating a national and international audience about the dangers and prevention of this viral disease. When he is not at work, Dr. Ostrosky-Zeichner enjoys family time with his wife, Stephanie, and their children, Zoe, Spencer, and Phoebe.

 

It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that Dr. Luis Ostrosky-Zeichner has been named a Top 20 Inspiring Man Impact Maker for 2022.
