E. Michelle Bohreer has been guided in life by the adage “to whom much is given, much is expected,” and graciously gives of much of her time volunteering and serving her community.

Michelle is the founder and sole member of Bohreer Law Firm, PLLC, which she began in October of 2019. She has received numerous recognitions from her peers and other organizations, including being named a Texas Super Lawyer for 16 years. A small sample of her other professional honors includes: being named one of America’s Honored Lawyers by The American Registry in 2022, being named one of the Best Lawyers in Texas by ALM in 2020 and 2021, being named Best Trial Lawyer in America – Employment Law by the National Institute of Trial Lawyers in 2021, being named Litigator of the Year – Employment Law by the American Institute of Trial Lawyers in 2021, and being named one of the Lawyers of Distinction  in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Michelle further contributes to the field of employment law through speaking engagements, discussing such subjects as employment law updates, hot topics in employment law, and Texas sexual harassment laws. As well, Michelle writes timely articles on such topics as discrimination in the workplace, diversity in the workplace,  and hiring and firing laws.

While Michelle is proud of her legal accomplishments, she is far prouder of her contributions to the community and the world. Her philanthropic path began in HISD public schools teaching a math class at Westbury High School and then took a different route when a loved one was diagnosed with cancer. Thus began her time volunteering with the American Cancer Society. Ultimately, Michelle would go on to be recognized as the organization’s Shining Star, an honor bestowed upon its volunteer of the year. Stepping into a leadership position, Michelle cochaired the American Cancer Society Gulf Coast Region Leadership Council. In 2006, her love of college football and her passion to end cancer came together when Michelle chaired the Lombardi Award, making her the first woman to chair a national college football award.

Michelle joined the Rotary Club in 1999 and remains an active Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline today. In 2021, Michelle became the District Governor for Rotary District 5890 with overall responsibility for over 2700 Rotarians in 63 rotary clubs in the greater Houston area. As District Governor, Michelle lead District 5890 to an annual fund-giving record. She also championed love during her governor year, encouraging Rotarians to show love to all, and set a challenge for each Rotarian mentor to hire a person with neurodiversity.

Michelle has received numerous recognitions in Rotary at the club and district level, including Assistant Governor of the Year and Rotarian of the Year for District 5890, greater Houston metropolitan area. In 2017, Michelle received the highest individual honor given by Rotary International when she was awarded the Service Above Self Award, recognizing her lifetime service to her community and the world.

Michelle’s passion for individuals with neuro-differences holds the greatest place in her heart. Michelle’s spectacular son, Luke, whom Michelle describes as her hero and the greatest gift she has ever received, is on the autism spectrum. Michelle tells anyone who asks that Luke has taught her more about love and acceptance than anyone. When she was asked to join the Board of the KnowAutism Foundation 11 years ago, she said, “Yes.” Michelle has served as its board chair since July 2022.

Michelle is also passionate about empowering girls around the world. Through Rotary, she has been instrumental in seeing through to completion restrooms being built at a school in South Africa, which now allow more than 300 girls to remain in school after puberty. Michelle traveled to see the project and found herself spearheading donations to another organization, Little Brinks House, which helps abused children rescued by the police, while the team should have been sightseeing. As of today, another school is getting restrooms in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, with Michelle’s leadership. Michelle hopes to attend the opening in March 2025.

Michelle received her B.B.A, magna cum laude, Accounting from the University of Houston in 1984 and graduated from the University of Houston Law Center, J.D. cum laude in 1989.

Michelle’s hobbies include traveling, going for long walks with Luke, and “treasure hunting” for vintage handbags and couture jewelry and other vintage treasures. Luke is her greatest gift from God.  He is so much more than his diagnosis: he is an artist; loves to meet people and create joy and happiness for everyone; and has taught Michelle a great deal about life and love, without condition. Bella and Barkley, their Australian Labradoodles, round out their family.

It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that E. Michelle Bohreer has been named a Star Impact Maker for 2025.
