On Sunday, May 23, 2021, KNOWAutism Foundation will present the inaugural As I am Art Festival. It will be held at Fish Plaza at the Wortham Theater Center from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Unique art created by over 250 child artists from 12 participating Houston-area schools and nonprofit organizations will be on display and available for purchase. Amy Pierce, Michelle Bohreer, and Marian McClendon will chair the event. Foundation board member Sippi Khurana, M.D. will serve as the Grand Marshal.

Not only is the festival giving participants the opportunity to view and purchase one-of-a-kind artworks, it also has a number of special visitors lined up who are guaranteed to provide lots of fun for the whole family. DJ Mike Mirelesswill provide music and bubble activities; Miss Petal, Ms. Vine, and Butterfly Man from J&D Entertainment will delight both young and old; balloon artists and a magician will show off their skills; and Houston Ballet, The River, and Social Motion Skills, Inc. will present performances. To quench your thirst and your palate, Tiffany & Co. will provide complimentary lemonade and cookies. As well, guests can buy delicious treats from Tila’s funnel cake and snow cone food trucks. Tila’s will also provide complimentary beverage stations. Because the festival will be ADA compliant, there will be a comfort zone for families with children with autism spectrum disorder.

Free and open to the public, the occasion will have controlled limited attendance and follow strict COVID-19 safety protocols, including mask wearing, wrist bands at entry, temperature checks, and hand sanitation stations. Street parking will be available at no cost, and underground garage parking will be available for a nominal fee.

Leading up to the festival, KNOWAutism and co-chairs, Sherri Zucker and Paul-David Van Atta, will host an As I AmArt Auction on Thursday, May 6, 2021. The private and intimate silent auction will serve as a fundraiser for the As I AmArt Festival. Attendees will enjoy light bites and cocktails and have the opportunity to bid on more than 50 art pieces. They will also be welcome to donate and participate as an Art Festival underwriter and KNOWAutism supporter.
