Over 1,200 Porsche enthusiasts gathered at Spring Street Studios this weekend for the inaugural Tejas Treffen event, the premiere Porsche event in Texas, to enjoy beautiful art, classic and modern cars, good music, and delicious food and drink. Added to this was the enjoyment everyone took from raising funds for Houston’s Snowdrop Foundation.
The idea for the event was born when Porsche collectors and enthusiasts Antonio Kawage, Michael Meldrum, Rudy Mancinas, and Niels Meissner joined forces to create a unique laid-back experience for the city that everyone could enjoy. All generations and models of Porsche, as well as classic motorbikes, were displayed in and around Spring Street Studios bestowing a Kaleidoscope of color on the area. The diverse collection included a psychedelically painted Porsche 356; a rare Porsche 962 that has raced at Daytona; some unique examples of Porsche 911s; and the current flagship model, the extraordinarily rare 918 Spyder.
Highlighting the evening was the live charity auction of five vintage Porsche hoods painted by local artists. It raised over $20K to benefit the Snowdrop Foundation. The funds will support college-bound pediatric cancer patients and childhood cancer survivors as well as go toward continued research in the fight against childhood cancer.
Kevin Kline, co-founder of the Snowdrop Foundation, had this to say about all the support: “We are so honored to benefit from Tejas Treffen. The proceeds raised will help Snowdrop Foundation fulfil our mission and hopefully get us to a cure for childhood cancer faster than a 911 Turbo S. It’s been such an honor to share our love and passion of Porsche and local art with fellow Houstonians. The enthusiasm and support have been incredible. We had so many volunteers and vendors (Porsche of West Houston, DriverSource, Local Houston Magazine, Guns & Oil Brewing Co., Reserve Supply Company, Modern Aircooled, and many others) donate their time and service, it has been a humbling experience”
