Malisha Patel is senior vice president and CEO for both Memorial Hermann Southwest (MHSW) and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land (MHSL) hospitals. In this role, Malisha oversees the strategic development and operations for both campuses. Prior to her current role, Malisha was the vice president of operations for MHSW with operational responsibility and oversight of the hospital’s journey toward earning Level II trauma verification. In April 2018, MHSW received Magnet® recognition for excellence in nursing services from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®. It is the highest and most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence.

Malisha was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Knowing at an early age she wanted to help people, Malisha originally set out to become a physician. During her freshman year at The University of Texas at Austin, however, she made an unexpected discovery. At the time, Malisha was a pre-med student majoring in biology. One day, she decided on a whim to attend a seminar in Healthcare Administration. By the end of the hour, Malisha had come to the realization that the role of healthcare administrator would be more fitting for her, and she changed paths.

Before Malisha joined MHSW, she worked at MHSL for 10 years, where she served in multiple roles, including vice president of operations. In that role, she oversaw a $93 million expansion project to MHSL, which added 60 beds and a medical plaza, and expanded services to the hospital. In addition, Malisha served as the executive champion for MHSL’s Journey to Excellence, which adopted and integrated the Baldrige framework, a program established by President Ronald Regan in 1987 to develop world-class management criteria. In November 2016, MHSL was recognized as a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, the highest presidential honor for performance excellence given in the United States.

Prior to working with MHSL, Malisha held positions in the private sector as an internal operations consultant with Tenet Healthcare, and in the government sector as administrative officer of the Ambulatory Care and Physical Medicine & Rehab departments with the VA North Texas Health Care System.

Throughout her career, Malisha has received a number of professional accolades, including the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston Young Professional of the Year Award, National Women’s Council Top 15 Women in Business of Houston, the Trinity University Health Care Administration Alumni Association’s Momentum Award and Healthcare Hero Accolade Award from The Women’s Voice in Sugar Land. In service to her community, Malisha is an active member of several local boards, including the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, where she previously served as board chair. In addition, she is involved with the Texas Hospital Association, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston and the Trinity University Health Care Administration Alumni Association.

Malisha received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master of Health Administration from Trinity University. She is also certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt. In addition, Malisha is Board Certified in Health Care Management as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She resides in Houston with her husband, Bhavesh, and their two sons, Jai and Avi.

Devoted to the betterment of the lives of others, Malisha has chosen a path that has enabled her to make a difference in the community. Her work as a healthcare administrator has enriched the lives of many by improving the services available to them.
CKW LUXE would like to congratulate Malisha Patel for being a CKW LUXE Top 20 CEOs and Entrepreneurs Awards recipient for 2019.
