The Thread Alliance Donates $10,000 in Grants to Local Charities

HOUSTON - The Thread Alliance, a nonprofit organization founded by Sheila Aron, will award a grant of $1,000 to 10 leading charity organizations in Houston that address the issue of child abuse prevention, awareness, treatment or training.

"It's important for our community to come together to eliminate child abuse," said Aron, founder of The Thread Alliance. "Every Houstonian must do their part by spreading the thread of love from generation to generation for prevention."

The Thread Alliance is dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse. The nonprofit's mission is to bring child abuse awareness to the forefront and provide a central registry of local, state, and national resources for those seeking child abuse prevention, intervention, or treatment information and services. The Thread Alliance strives to protect every child from cruelty and neglect and make child abuse a thing of the past.

The 10 organizations selected to receive The Thread Alliance Grants are:

  • Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse

  • Casa de Esperanza

  • Child Advocates Inc.

  • Child Builders

  • Children's Assessment Center

  • Children's Protective Services

  • Crime Stoppers of Houston

  • Houston Area Women's Center

  • Justice for Children

  • Preparation for Adult Living

In April 2016, Houstonians are encouraged to take action against child abuse and towards healing with the fourth annual Blue Plate Special. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and local participating restaurants will offer their guests a "Blue Plate Special" and donate a flat dollar amount or percentage of the special menu item to The Thread Alliance.

The Thread Alliance Grant is made possible by the overwhelming success from the following 2015 events:

  • The Blue Plate Special, where more than 40 restaurants supported the cause by offering a "blue plate special" during the month of April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, and donating a percentage of the proceeds to The Thread Alliance.

  • "Once in a Blue Moon" Pool Party, hosted by The Houstonian Club and The Thread Alliance, which was held on Friday, July 31, 2015. Close to 500 members and guests celebrated the last blue moon until August 2018. Because, they believe "child abuse should never happen, not even once in a blue moon!" In efforts to raise awareness for child abuse prevention, all proceeds from the Arbor Grill's blue moon menu benefited The Thread Alliance

The book is written with the conviction that how messages of love are communicated between parents and children can positively shape a child's personality, self-esteem, and - in later years - their approach to their own children.
