Dr. Rachel and Dr. Warren Ellsworth are caring and committed physicians who are passionate about the arts and the community as a whole.

Rachel and Warren met during their surgical training. Warren was a resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Plastic Surgery, while Rachel was a general surgery intern at Houston Methodist. Many years later, they are now celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary and have three beautiful children, Isabel, Warren V, and Eloise.

As the son of an international opera singer, Warren grew up in opera houses around the world. After attending primary school in Europe, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction from the University of Virginia (UVA) where he was named an Echols Scholar. Warren concentrated his undergraduate years at UVA and University of Oxford in music, studying classical voice and orchestral conducting.

Warren returned to Houston and received his medical degree and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine. He fell in love with plastic surgery, a field that married art and science into an ideal surgical specialty. While completing residency, Warren not only developed his skills as a plastic surgeon but also discovered a new love – Rachel.

Rachel received her Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University in Maryland majoring in biology and German. She received a master’s from Georgetown University, before attending medical school at University of Maryland. Rachel’s mentor, famed surgeon Dr. Barbara Bass, brought her to Houston to train in surgery.

It was on morning rounds that Rachel and Warren met. The rest, as they say, is history! After completing general surgery residency, Rachel was awarded a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery and is now double board certified in both specialties.

Warren is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. He was named Medical Director of Plastic Surgery at Houston Methodist West Hospital where he has developed a successful and well-known center for complex breast reconstruction. As an expert in microsurgery, Warren trains residents and fellows and has won numerous teaching awards over the years.

Rachel has the distinction of being one of few female colon and rectal surgeons in the greater Houston area.  As a specialist in minimally invasive techniques, she and her partners lead the market in robotic surgery and are cited regularly as a leading site for training in minimally invasive cancer surgery. Rachel is known as a compassionate doctor, skilled surgeon, and thoughtful teacher.

While they occasionally can be seen operating together – Rachel removing the cancer and Warren reconstructing what cancer has taken – Warren’s passion is in breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. He has contributed over 60 peer-reviewed articles on the topic and has been named to the Best Doctors list year after year for his reputation as a leader in the field. Warren is an invited lecturer both locally and nationally and holds the title of Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at both Weill Cornell Medical College and Baylor College of Medicine.

Warren holds positions of leadership on the national stage of organized plastic surgery, having just completed a term on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  He is on several key national committees, including Health Policy, Patient Safety, and Legislative Committee allowing Warren to advocate for his specialty and patients alike. He was recently nominated to the elite American Association of Plastic Surgeons as well as elected to the Board of Examiners for the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Rachel and Warren have a mutual love for the performing arts and dedicate their philanthropic efforts to several key Houston organizations. Warren sits on the Board of Directors for Houston Grand Opera and is Vice Chair of the Studio Committee. His leadership in the HGO Studio is especially meaningful for him as his father was part of the Studio in its inaugural class. Warren also serves on the Opera Production Council for the Moores School of Music.

Rachel and Warren cochaired the inaugural Ars Lyrica Opera Circle Gala, supporting Houston’s first performance of Agrippina. They also chaired the 2019 Opening Night Gala for Houston Grand Opera’s Rigoletto, and Rachel continues to contribute as a member of the HGO Special Events committee.

Having grown up as a chorister, Warren is proud to serve as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Grammy winning Houston Chamber Choir. Rachel and Warren chaired the organization’s very successful 2017 Gala.

While both are passionate about medicine and music, Rachel and Warren are most moved by their three joyful children.

It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that Dr. Rachel and Dr. Warren Ellsworth have been named a Top 20 Power Couple Impact Maker for 2022.
